Art on the Mart is truly a ‘One of a Kind Show!’ The annual event highlights the innovative, creative energy of Chicago for all the city to see. Unveiling a larger-than-life canvas, Art on the Mart transforms an architectural landmark into a sight to behold. Architect and Artist Michael Ferro shares the details:
Established by the Art Institute of Chicago in 2018, Art on the Mart is a unique event unlike any other. The exhibit features digital art displayed on one of Chi Town’s most legendary landmarks: The Mart. As an Architect and Artist, Michael Ferro is passionate about how the event fuses the worlds of architecture and digital art work. The ‘permanent’ installation remains projected onto the architectural landmark for the year — until a new piece is unveiled the following year. Michael Ferro, Chicago Art Historian and Retired Architect, has followed the Art on the Mart event prolifically since its launch. In many ways, Ferro believes that the event holds cultural significance within the local art scene. Quite literally shining the spotlight on one of the most history-rich buildings in the area, Art on the Mart is more than just a visually appealing digital display. It is an opportunity for visitors and locals alike to appreciate the architecture.
Art on the Mart is hosted at The Mart: Chicago’s largest commercial building. While the initial unveiling takes place in April of each year, there are plenty of exciting events hosted at the exhibit year-round. Upcoming events include the Winter Art on the Mart, where a full digital art projection show will take place November 30th thru December 30th. The location is also the site of the One of a Kind Show, which runs December 5th thru December 8th.
